Alternative to New Year’s Rockin’ Eve: Watch the Ball Drop Live in Times Square

Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest will show the ball drop as part of his New Year’s special, but for those who want to watch the ball drop live in person, the Times Square Alliance organization offers tips.

  • Arrive early in the afternoon. The earlier you arrive, the better your chances of getting a viewing spot near the ball. According to the Times Square Alliance, the ball drops from a flagpole at One Times Square and can be seen along Broadway (from 43rd street to 50th street) and along Seventh Avenue possibly as far north as 59th Street.
  • Dress warmly. Temperatures may drop below freezing. The organization specifically recommends wind -resistant and water-repellant clothing plus a hat.

The Times Square Alliance website contains a helpful FAQ section where potential visitors can find answers to questions like “Is alcohol allowed?” and “How do I enter Times Square on New Year’s Eve?”

I agree with you Josh! My boyfriend is currently in the United States Air Force, and my cousin is currently in the process of entering the Air Force Reserves! I think we all need to show love and support for our troops! Especially the ones who were not home with their families this holiday season!
