2008 Teen Choice AwardsMiley Cyrus Hosts as Teens Vote for Their Choice in EntertainmentTeens brought in 32 million votes online for the 2008 Teen Choice Awards choosing from the nominees of the entertainment industry. The show aired August 4, 2008 on Fox.
Disney's it girl, Miley Cyrus, started the show with a performance and also hosted theTeen Choice Awards for the evening. It was the 10th anniversary of the surfboard giving award show. (The actually award given to winners is shaped and the same size as a surfboard.) Jonas Brothers and GossipGirl the Most Popular during Teen ChoiceThe Jonas Brothers, also coming from the Disney Channel and adored by adolescent girls according to the screams by the audience, won several awards, including Choice Male Hottie, Choice Red Carpet Fashion Icon Male Honors, and Choice Breakout Group. For the song “When You Look Me In The Eyes,” the Jonas Brothers won Choice Music Single and Choice Music Love Song. The group also won Choice Summer Song with the song “Burnin’ Up.” GossipGirl, drama for the CW Network had 14 nomination despite low ratings. Of the 14 nominations the show won six, including Choice TV Show Drama. Other winners went to individual actors or actresses from the show such as Blake Lively for Choice Fresh Face. Non Teens Still get Screams from TeensAlthough Will Smith is far from his teenage days as the Fresh Prince, he still took a surfboard award home for Choice Summer Movie Action/ Adventure for Hancock. Smith also won Choice Movie Horror Thriller, for “I Am Legend.” Another not such a teen Hip-Hop Artist present was LL Cool J, who performed during a segment in the program. This particular segment was Miley Cyrus' and Mandy Jiroux's M&M dance crew dancing in a challenge against the crew ACDC, featuring Jon M. Chu and Adam Sevani of "Step Up 2: The Streets". In the end the M&M dance crew won having had the most audience applause. The movie "Step Up 2" won for Choice Movie Drama. Mariah Carey who claims in many interviews to be eternally 12 years old, performed her hit a mix of her songs “Touch My Body” and “I’ll Be Loving You,” but anyone who had seen Jimmy Kimmel Live saw this performance when she was on his show. More WinnersOther Awards outside of entertainment was the Do Something Award; won by Chad Bullock, a young man who is anti-smoking and has acted in the prevention of smoking. Also action sports star Ryan Sheckler won for Choice Myspacer. Other winners during the night include David Beckham, for sports, Adam Sandler for comedian and Randy Jackson for his show America’s Best Dance Crew. The first year of the Teen Choice Award Show was 1999, where then teen sensation Brittney Spears welcomes viewers to the show.
