The 61st Annual Film Festival began May 14th and will run through May 25th.
The Cannes Film Festival is always a spectacular event filled with celebrities. Famous people from all over the world attend, show off their new movies and the paparazzi is everywhere. The 61st annual event is no different. Whether celebrities are there to promote their movie or just to be seen, the Cannes Film Festival is the place to be.
The most notable celebrity event was Angelina Jolie confirming she’s carrying twins. The verification of twins means that Jolie and boyfriend Brad Pitt will have six children, three biological. Jolie has been spotted all over Cannes smiling ear to ear showing off her protruding belly. Jolie and Pitt have taken dates to restaurants and gone shopping at a local Toys’ R ’Us. Jolie is in the South of France promoting two movies; Kung Fu Panda with Jack Black and the Clint Eastwood film The Exchange.
Mischa Barton was noticeably absent from promoting her film even though she was spotted in Cannes. The OC star, 22, was spotted at Chopard’s Cannes Bash but pulled out of all promotion for her film, You and I. According to sources, Mischa thought the film was “awful” and didn’t want to be involved in promoting it.
Other Celebrity Sightings:
One of the biggest titles gracing the film festival this year is the newest installment of the Indiana Jones series. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will open the festival that British reports say is heavy with American power hitters. The festival is supposed to be an amateur film festival but has turned in to American Hollywood, according to British newspaper The Independent. British films and directors were snubbed for a second year in a row with not one British work selected to be viewed or in the running for awards.
